the case for mccain

It's tough to vote for McCain as he isn't nearly as conservative as I like.  Choosing Palin perhaps was to excite voters like me, but we'll see if she was the better choice over Huckabee or Romney.

McCain seems to have a voting record to oppose government intrusion, but he's not the usual conservative on the issue. 

I like that he supports "sin" taxes.  I know I'm normally against tax increases of any kind or new taxes, but in the case of alcohol and tobacco, tax away.  Why?  Well, I can choose not to smoke or drink; however raising the income tax bracket will not be something I can avoid since we have to work to pay the bills. 

McCain normally supports tax cuts.  He didn't support Bush's because there was no spending cuts or limits.  Can't blame him there.

He supports school choice with vouchers, etc.  I like that. 

He's a big supporter of free trade.

He's he big anti-pork maverick.  Sorry, had to use that overused word one more time.  Maverick maverick maverick.  He is as SNL says, mavericky.  *laugh*

McCain is fairly good at entitlement reform, moreso than the current Republican administration.

He supports tort reform.

I know he's not as strong on immigration policy as some conservatives would like, but let's get real here.  Government involvement in immigration doesn't even make sense if you are a true conservative. Shouldn't the border states be the ones to build the fence or whatever it is you want the country to do about a physical barrier?  As for a huge deportation of illegal immigrants back to Mexico?  It ain't gonna happen.  It's a mess, I know, but so far nothing is happening.

If McCain had been in office rather than Bush, I bet we would have already surged in Iraq and the war would have already ended?  Maybe.

Anyway, there's a few reasons outside of the normal pro-life, anti stem cell research, and other social issues where most know I stand very conservatively.

It won't be long and this election will be over.  I'm just hoping Obama doesn't win with his "Change, don't think" mentality.

I found this reading the internet today. Social conservatives DO believe that mothers have a big role in an infants' life during their first year, but so do their fathers. I have read statements on a discussion board (liberals vs conservatives) that even Palin running for VP with a 4-month-old is irresponsible, much less giving birth to a child that she knew ahead of time was not genetically perfect.

I, for one, do not understand how Palin can breastfeed her child AND run for VP. I barely have time to do anything in my life working 30 hours a week with a baby of the same age. I suppose she will have a lot of help.

As for the issue of Down's Syndrome being irresponsible for her to go ahead and birth... well that's where I definitely draw the line. God makes no mistakes in life. If I knew ahead of time and knew I couldn't handle it? There are parents out there that will adopt a special needs child.

I guess it's hard to really believe someone could terminate once you can see the arms, legs, and head so easily. In fact just at 15 weeks when the first tests are run for genetic reasons, ours was already hiccuping and responding to the waves of the ultrasound. Go figure.

On another note with the whole definition of social conservative, it always gets me when capital punishment is thrown in there. I am not for that sort of death either. How can you be against abortion and for the death penalty? Doesn't make sense.

I will offer an alternative answer for the original blog's question of how she can do it? Well actually Governor Palin could pump her breastmilk every 3-5 hours at this point (no different than other things we do as humans routinely) and someone else could feed the baby her milk in a bottle. Easy enough.

What an interesting election it is going to be this year.  CNBC is already reporting that Sarah Palin, the current governor of Alaska, would be the running mate for John McCain.  I can't help but admit that I smiled hugely on this... namely because not only would an Obama/Biden ticket make history, a McCain/Palin would as well.  They could be speculating incorrectly, but I hope not.

The reviews are in from Saturday's Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency, moderated by Pastor Rick Warren. The critics agree - John McCain's straight talk emerged as the big winner of the night.

After watching both candidates answer the same set of questions, it's become clear why Senator Barack Obama has run away from debating John McCain and refused joint town hall meetings. Senator Obama dodged answering the toughest questions. But John McCain gave straight and direct answers to Rick Warren and the entire audience about issues like national security, personal faith and values, education, taxes, energy, and the Supreme Court.

In an election that I thought might end up gray, it's obvious to me who to vote for.

And what about his lack of experience?  And his lack of using the word "experienced" when referring to not nominating Clarence Thomas to the SC Bench?
